Abstract

1,101,290. Control of two motors. C. E. VAN TOL. 7 Sept., 1966 [7 Sept., 1965], No. 39932/66. Heading H2J. [Also in Division E2] Windows 2, 3 situated in pairs one on either side of a ridge of a forcing house 1 are operated by pair(s) of electric motors 4, 5 one on each side of the ridge. The motors drive gears 6, 7 having shafts 8, 9 which may run the length of the forcing house. Pinions 10, 11 attached to the shafts engage racks 12, 13 fixed to the windows. An intermediate shaft (18, Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) between the armature or rotor shaft of the electric motor 4 and shaft 8 is provided with transmission devices (19, 20 and 22, 23) at each end, the former for operating end switches (in device 21) and the latter for driving a feedback potentiometer (in device 24). A switching device 16 is provided for each pair of electric motors which in conjunction with the end switches operates so as to ensure that the windows on one side of the forcing house cannot be opened until after the windows on the other side are totally opened and that the first mentioned windows have to be closed totally before the ones on the other side can be moved to their closed position. The switching device preferably comprises a selector switch for determining which windows are to be opened first and closed last. Selection may be determined by wind direction. The switching device may be rendered operable by electric impulses generated as the result of a temperature change, or change in relative humidity, inside or outside the forcing house. To prevent the windows being opened and closed too rapidly in succession, the signal generating the electrical impulses may be modified according to the position of the windows. For instance, in the case of a resistance element being used to detect temperature change, the resistor may be incorporated in a bridge circuit in which feedback potentiometers are also provided, the sliders of which are coupled to the electric motors.
