Abstract
A composition comprises (1) a graft blend prepared by polymerizing 80 to 100% by weight of vinyl chloride and 20 to 0% of an ethylenically unsaturated comonomer with either (a) a chlorinated polyolefin or chlorosulphonated polyolefin or (b) an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, (2) a rubberlike copolymer of acrylonitrile and a conjugated diene and (3) either (a) a chlorinated polyolefin or chlorosulphonated polyolefin or (b) an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The chlorinated polyolefin in graft blend (1) may be an ethylene-vinyl chloride copolymer. In examples, the compositions prepared comprise the following: I and II-chlorinated polyethylene grafted with vinyl chloride, butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer and chlorinated polyethylene, III-the same graft polymer, chloroprene-acrylonitrile copolymer and chlorinated polyethylene, IV-chlorinated polyethylene grafted with vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, isoprene-acrylonitrile copolymer and chlorinated polypropylene, V-chlorinated polypropylene grafted with vinyl chloride, 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer and chlorinated polyethylene, VI-chlorinated polyethylene grafted with vinyl chloride, cyclopentadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer and chlorinated polyethylene, VII-graft polymer as in VI, 2,3 - dimethyl - 1,3 -butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer and chlorinated polypropylene, VIII-as VI except that chlorosulphonated polyethylene is used in place of chlorinated polyethylene, IX-ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer grafted with vinyl chloride, butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer and chlorinated polyethylene, X-as IX, except that a chloroprene-acrylonitrile copolymer is used as component (2), XI-ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer grafted with vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, isopreneacrylonitrile copolymer and chlorinated polypropylene, XII-as IX, except that a cyclopentadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer is component (2), XIII and XIV-as IX, XV-as I, except that an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer is grafted with vinyl chloride, XVI-chlorinated polyethylene grafted with vinyl chloride, butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer and ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer, XVII-as XVI, except that a chloroprene-acrylonitrile copolymer is component (2), XVIII-chlorinated polyethylene grafted with vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, isoprene-acrylonitrile copolymer and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, XIX-chlorinated polypropylene grafted with vinyl chloride, 2 - chloro - 1,3 - butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, XX and XXI-chlorinated polyethylene grafted with vinyl chloride, cyclopentadiene-acrylonitrile or 2,3 - dimethyl - 1,3 - butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The graft polymers are prepared by suspending the backbone polymer in an aqueous medium, adding vinyl chloride and carrying out polymerization or by suspending a solution of the backbone polymer in vinyl chloride and other monomer, if any, optionally with cyclohexane as additional solvent, in the aqueous medium.
