Abstract

A sound damping pad or sheet comprises a coumarone, indene, coumarone - indene or styrene-indene resin, or a resin derived from a homologue of such compounds, a glyceryl ester of hydrogenated abietic acid and mixtures thereof and/or a bituminous material, optionally with a filler, the pad having an adhesive coating on at least one side of an acrylic polymer, applied to the pad from a solution of the polymer, and having been prepared from monomeric material comprising 100 to 75% by weight of one or more alkyl acrylates, up to 15% by weight of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and up to 10% of one or more other ethylenically unsaturated monomers. Preferred adhesives are polymers of butyl acrylate or 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate and copolymers thereof with acrylic acid and/or acrylonitrile. The exemplified fillers are clay, mica, whiting, slate powder, sand, barytes, talc, asbestos, ground granite, carbon black, silica, wood flour, cork, or mixtures thereof, and preferred solvents are aliphatic alcohols, e.g. butanol, dioxan, dimethylformamide and hydrocarbons.
