Abstract
1,100,362. Intermeshing screw motors. IMO-INDUSTRI A. B. March 3, 1966 [March 3, 1965], No. 9438/66. Heading F1F. In a hydraulic intermeshing screw motor, comprising a power screw 5, Fig. 1, and idler screws 6, 7, Fig. 2 axially displaceable to a limited extent in a casing, the casing comprises an intermediate part 9 having an inlet chamber 12 supplied with pressure liquid through a conduit 13, an upper part 11a with an outlet chamber 14 having an outlet 15, and a lower port 11 through which the motor shaft 4 extends provided with an intermediate pressure chamber 16. The chamber 16 being separated from the chamber 12 by a sleeve 19 having a throttled channel 20 and a radial port 22 co-operable with an annular groove 23 and radial and axial passages 24, 25 in the screw 5 to connect the chamber 16 also with the chamber 14. When the motor is inoperative, the screws fall so that a flange 26 on the screw 5 rests on the sleeve 19. On pressure liquid being supplied to the chamber 12 to rotate the screws, pressure slowly builds up in the chamber 16 to raise the screw 5 and adjust the groove 23 with respect to the port 22 to allow the escape of pressure liquid from the chamber 16 to the chamber 14 until a state of balance is achieved whereat the screw 5 axially floats. Also, the upper ends 27, 28 of the idler screws 6, 7 are secured to collars 29, 30 rotatable in fixed bearing sleeves 33, 34 to which are affixed flanged washers 35, 36 which with the sleeves and the collars form intermediate pressure chambers 49, 50. The pressure chambers 49, 50 are connected to inlet pressure through throttled passages 43, 44, a passage 38 in a cross-piece 37 abutting the washers and a pipe 39 connected to the conduit 13 and to outlet pressure in the chamber 14 through radial ports 47, 48 in the bearing sleeves. When the motor is inoperative the collars 29, 30 rest on the screw 5. When pressure liquid is supplied to the chamber 12 to raise the power screw 5, the idler screws 6, 7 are also initially raised, counter pressure then builds up in the chambers 49, 50 until a state of balance is reached therein whereat the idler screws 6, 7 also axially float.
