Abstract

A process for manufacturing a flexible, fabricreinforced pressure hose comprises introducing an inner tube of thermoplastic plastics material into a fabric casing manufactured from synthetic or natural fibres or filaments coated with thermoplastics material, expanding the inner tube against the inner walls of the casing using compressed air, uniformly heating the exterior of the casing whilst maintaining contact between the tube and casing so that the inner tube is softened and becomes bonded to the interior casing walls, and subsequently cooling the hose produced. The thermoplastic material is elastomeric and is preferably of plasticized polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, or a mixture thereof. The casing may be heated by air circulating through surface-heating ducts or by mounting the casing on rollers and passing the same through a double-walled tube heated by pumpcirculated water at a controlled temperature. The fibres or filaments of the easing may be coated, preferably during their manufacture, with the same thermoplastic forming the inner tube to produce a homogeneous inner tube/ casing bond and an abrasion-resistant covering.
