1,099,929. Measuring gas composition electrically. WESTFAELISCHE BERGGEWERKSCHAFTSKASSE. Jan.4, 1967 [Jan. 5, 1966], No.569/67. Heading G1N. A device for measuring the methane content of a gas sample comprises two resistance bridges, the first having a resistance arm R1 responsive to the combustion of the methane around it, and the second having an arm R5 responsive to the thermal conductivity of the sample. A meter is connected across the first bridge to normally indicate methane content. If the methane content exceeds 20% by volume, the second bridge is unbalanced sufficiently to energize a relay R through a transistor Tr and so disconnect the meter from the first bridge and re-connect it across the D. C. supply to the second bridge in series with a resistor 10 which is so dimensioned that the meter will show a full scale deflection.
