Abstract
109,936. Clegg, J. H., and Wilson, I. March 27, 1917. Carding-engines.-The rotary stripping brushes for cleaning the flats are driven intermittently by ratchet mechanism &c. Fig. 1 shows a ratchetwheel d on the brush-shaft a operated by a pawl g and an arm e on the oscillating shaft c. If desired, each oscillation of the shaft c may be caused to rotate the brush-shaft forwards and then backwards through a smaller angle. For this purpose, the shaft a carries also a ratchet-wheel d<1>, Fig. 3, arranged oppositely to the wheel d and actuated by a pawl g<1> and arm e<1> as before, the pawl g<1> being lifted out of engagement with its ratchet during the latter portion of its movement to the right by means of a stop j on the arm e<1>.
