Each collector electrode assembly 9, Fig. 1, of an electrostatic precipitator comprises two spaced parallel, planar collector electrodes, bracing means 119, Fig. 6, connecting the two collector electrodes together, and in the spaces between consecutive collector electrodes discharge electrodes 8. A support member for the collector electrodes is passed through and resiliently supported from a suspension point 27, Fig. 2, on the roof 5 of the precipitator shell 1,2. An upper portion of the support member receives impacts from rappers which may be located above the roof; alternatively separate rapping rods may pass sideways out of the shell. The major planes of the electrode assemblies are situated vertically parallel with the gas flow between an inlet 3 and an outlet 4, Fig. 1. The collector assemblies comprise flat plates 10 secured to flanged channel-members 11, the upper and lower ends of which are bolted to a header bar 16 and a bottom bar 18, so that the braced assemblies take the form of a lattice-type girder. Each assembly is supported from the roof 5 by rods 19 which screw into brackets bolted to the header bars 16. Each bracket comprises a threaded tube 21, Fig. 9, welded to a steel flat and strengthened by gussets, the tube and support rod 19 being drilled to take a split pin 25, a lock nut being provided on the rod. The support rods 19 pass through tubes in the roof 5 and have bolt heads resting on springs to provide the assemblies with a resilient mounting on the suspension points 27. Escape of gas is prevented by flexible neoprene sleeves clipped to the rods and tubes.
