Abstract

1,098,095. Methods of steam generation. SULZER BROS Ltd. May 20, 1966 [May 31, 1965], No. 22592/66. Heading F4A. [Also in Division F1] A steam boiler 2, 6, Fig. 2, supplying steam to a steam turbine 11 and including a preheater, an evaporator and a superheater is supplied with combustion air by a compressor 1 and with j fuel from a line 3. The combustion gases are diverted through a gas turbine 4 in passing from the part 2 of the boiler to the part 6. The gas turbine 4 drives the compressor 1 and, it may be a a generator 5. After being heated in the boiler part 6, the feed water is diverted through feedwater heaters 9 to be heated by steam bled from the steam turbine 11 and is then returned to the boiler to be evaporated in the boiler part 2. The feedwater preheaters 9 may be replaced by a nuclear reactor or any other heat exchanger. If the operating medium of the heat exchanger is a vapour or a gas, it may be mixed with the combustion gases at the exhaust side of the gas turbine 4. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), in which the steam may be supplied to a steam supply main (18) instead of a steam turbine, the preheaters 9 are replaced by an auxiliary boiler (14) supplied with combustion air from an intermediate stage of the compressor (1). The combustion gases from the auxiliary boiler (14) join the combustion gases exhausting from the gas turbine (4) to the part (6) of the main boiler. The auxiliary boiler (14) may be heated by combustion gases from the part (2) of the main boiler.
