Appartus for spreading granular material comprises a storage hopper 1 from which material is discharged through a spout 8 located below the hopper and reciprocated in a transverse direction, the end of the spout being open and being embraced by a U-shaped strap 11 provided with one or more holes 12. In a modification two straps are provided located one above the other and of equal or different width.
