Abstract

An axially or biaxially oriented polypropylene sheet wrapping material has a non-tacky self-sealing coating, i.e. capable of forming an adhesive bond when brought into contact under pressure with another identical coating but does not form a bond when brought into contact with the uncoated wrapping material, in the zone or zones in which a twist is to be formed to secure the material when twisted against untwisting due to the natural resilience of the wrapping material. The material may be in the form of an open-ended container which can be closed by means of the twist. The coating may be such that the twist closure can be opened and reclosed. The coating may be in ribbon, strip, dot, diamond form and may be applied by printing roller wheel or stencil. The coating may be of rubber-based pressure-sensi-tive adhesive as described in Specifications 1081291 and 1067568. The wrapping material may be vacuum metallised to improve its appearance and barrier properties. The material may be coated either partially or completely with a key-coating for the self adhesive coating or a release coating to prevent adhesion of the material to the article wrapped. Other suitable wrapping materials disclosed are oriented polystyrene, polyethylene film, plasticised or unplasticised vinyl film and laminates thereof.
