Abstract

1,095,748. Capping bottles, &c. P. NOFER. Dec. 1, 1966 [Dec. 4, 1965], No. 53948/66. Heading B8T. A head for capping bottles, &c. comprises a cylindrical housing 7 containing a chuck 2 having axial slots 3 forming fingers, the lower ends of which each carry a rolling member 10 for engagement with a cap, a rubber sleeve 5 and a resilient metal ring 6 surrounding the fingers. As shown, the rolling members 10 are rollers having concave working faces, but alternatively the rolling members may be balls (10), Fig. 6 (not shown), or disks mounted upon a wire carrying-ring. A pressure head 13 and bolt 14 sliding within the housing 7 for engagement with an applied cap are biased downwardly by a spring (not shown). A cap suitable for application by the head comprises a recessed top and vertically ribbed skirt (15), Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), terminating in an outwardlyrolled bead (16), the initially circular cap being deformed into polygonal shape when it has been applied to a bottle &c. by the head.
