Abstract

1,095,612. Emptying tanks, &c. PEENEWERFT WOLGAST VEB. Feb. 7, 1966, No. 5184/66. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F1]. In a system for emptying tanks, &c. filled with solid bodies e.g. fish, by means of jet pumps connected to the discharge openings, the jet pumps 2, 3, Fig. 1, and 39, 40, are supplied by pressure water pumps 5 through pressure water conduits 22 and also by water discharged from their diffusers 4, 41, water from the same sources being supplied to rinsing systems fixed in the tanks, &c. 1, 32. The pressure water conduit 22 supplies rinsing water to the tanks, &c. 1, 32 through bottom rinsing conduits 28, 29 and for rinsing a channel leading to the fish discharge opening through connections 34, 35, each connection having a throttle 15, 16, 36, 33. Each jet pump installation has a preliminary stage jet pump 2, 39, a main jet pump 3, 40 and a diffuser 4, 41 the sections of each installation being individually connected to the pressure water conduit 22 through shut-off valves 10, 11, 63 and 37, 38 and 51. Water separated from the mixture flowing through the diffusers 4, 41 is returned to the preliminary stage 2, 39 via conduits 24, 43 having shut-off valves 14, 44 and to the containers 1, 32 through conduits 52, 53 having shut-off valves 13, 45. Alternatively the diffuser discharge water can pass overboard via conduits 26, 46 having shut-off valves 17, 47. The rinsing conduits 21, 48 leading to the delivery connections 7, 30 are supplied with compressed air through connections 23, 64 supplied from conduits 25, 49 having shut-off valves 18, 50. Operation.-Tanks, &c. 1, 32 are filled as a preliminary to pumping out with valves 9, 31, 10, 38, 8, 42, 62, 20 closed and throttles 16, 33, 15, 36 opened. In addition valves 11, 37, 12, 27 are opened and valves 14, 44, 13, 45 are closed. Both tanks are filled but no emptying takes place until one jet pump is supplied with the full pressure from conduit 22 by appropriate control of the valves. Tanks 1, 32 have an automatic and acoustical warning water level device (not described) which functions by closing a quick-operating valve 19. When maximum pumping height is required the diffuser discharge water is used for rinsing. A variety of valve operating sequences for clearing blockages is described. In another embodiment a diffuser (54), Fig. 3, (not shown) is arranged between the preliminary stage (2) and the jet pump (3), the preliminary stage being operated only by the diffuser discharge water. In another embodiment the jet pump (3), Fig. 2, (not shown) and the diffuser (4) are connected in a closed cycle which includes a pressure water pump (59).
