Abstract

An embossable sheet material comprises a base sheet having a front surface and a back surface, the base sheet being formed of a transparent rigid organic resin having a structure and composition such that permanent cold flow deformation thereof to form embossments thereon renders such resin opaque in the areas of deformation of the embossments, a transparent top coat having a first colouring agent uniformly distributed therethrough and carried by the base sheet on the front surface thereof, and a background coat having a second colouring agent uniformly distributed therethrough and carried by the base sheet on the rear surface thereof, where by the sheet material is embossable to provide opaque embossments having the colour of the first colouring agent on a field having a colour that is a combination of the colour of the first colouring agent and the colour of the background coat. Specified base materials are polyvinyl chloride and vinylchloride-vinyl acetate copolymers. Specified coatings are a mixture of a copolymer of acrylic and methacrylic acid esters with a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers and a vinylchloride - vinylidene chloride copolymer.
