Abstract

To prevent an electronic yarn clearer from needlessly cutting yarn during start-up and slow-down phases of winding spindles, an electric signal dependent upon the yarn speed is generated by means of a speed discriminator, and this signal is used to control the sensitivity of the yarn clearer. The speed discriminator may be responsive to the speed of a rotary part of the winding apparatus or it may be responsive to the speed of the yarn itself by being responsive to frequencies corresponding to cyclic fluctuations in yarn thickness. Circuit diagrams are included.
