Abstract
1,093,195. Loading & unloading. MURFITT BULK TRANSPORTERS Ltd. Jan. 29, 1965 [Jan. 30, 1964], No. 3981/64. Heading B8E. [Also in Division B7] A container 1, which may be moved from one supporting surface (vehicle) to another by winches and ropes integral with the vehicle, is provided with a turntable 2 vertically movable by jacks 5 and also with sets of wheels 3, 4. During transport the container rests directly on the supporting surface, but when it is required to move the container from say a rail vehicle to a road vehicle the wheels are lowered on pivoted arms, Fig. 3 (not shown) by means of pivoted pistons and cylinders and the turntable is lowered and locked by pins 14 in holes 15, Figs. 2 and 5 (not shown). The wheels are then retracted and the container turned on the turntable. The wheels are then extended once more and the turntable retracted so that the container may be wheeled to the required position. The turntable may however be arranged to raise the container from its wheels so as to avoid the need to first raise the body by extending the wheels.
