Abstract
1,092,584. Transit-time tubes; impedance matching. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 8, 1966 [Feb. 11, 1965], No. 5466/66. Headings H1D and H1W. A matched coupling between the rectangularsection output cavity of an apparatus for generating waves of less than 1 mm. wavelength, and a rectangular section waveguide extending in the axial direction of the cavity, is obtained by means of an aperture of reduced cross-section, formed by providing a suitable relative angular displacement, about their common axis, between the cavity and the waveguide. A density modulated electron beam 3, Fig. 1, is projected across the shortest dimension of the output cavity 1, which at one end opens into a cylindrical region 4 in which a tuning plunger 5 is movable, and at the other end is coupled to the angularly displaced output waveguide 2, the cross-sectional dimensions of which may be similar to those of the cavity 1. The cavity may be tuned to a harmonic of the input frequency, to provide frequency multiplication.
