Abstract
1,092,038. Testing hardness. ZAVOD ZA STROITELNI KONSTRUKZII. May 5, 1965, No.19051/65. Heading G1S. A device for hardness testing by non-destructive surface indentation comprises a casing, a percussion stem 3 mounted for relative axial sliding movement in said casing with a front portion of said stem projecting from a front end of said casing and adapted to carry a steel ball 1 at the terminal end of said projecting portion, a shoulder around said stem, a percussion body 10 slidably surrounding said stem behind said shoulder, a tension percussion spring 8 surrounding said stem, secured to the front end of the casing 7 and the percussion body, releasable trigger means 14 for retaining said percussion body against movement relative to said stem and abutment means 18 at the rear of said casing for releasing said trigger means. The arrangement is such that, by positioning the ball on said percussion stem against the surface under test and applying axial pressure to said casing, the latter will be caused to move along said stem, thereby extending the percussion spring 8 until the abutment means releases the trigger 14 whereupon the percussion body is released to deliver a blow to the percussion stem shoulder under the action of said percussion spring. The trigger means is pivoted on a slide 11 secured to the percussion body and slidable along the casing in guides 16. A return spring 15 is provided between the slide 11 and the rear end of the casing.
