Abstract

1,089,964. Automatic circuit-breakers. CTS CORPORATION. Jan. 4, 1965 [Jan. 8, 1964], No. 240/65. Heading H2B. [Also in Division H1] In a combination device comprising a variable resistor 15 (Fig. 4), a snap-action switch 35, 36 and an overload circuit-breaker 41, 41b in series with the switch, the bi-metallic element 41b of the overload breaker is reset by longitudinal movement of a common shaft 11 which movement causes movement of the switch bridging contact 35 to open the switch. To reset the breaker the end 11b of shaft 11 deflects an integral tongue of a plate 52 to bend the free arm of the bi-metallic element of the breaker back to the point where, if the overload conditions have disappeared, its hooked end 41b clips on to the fixed contact shown. Shaft 11 can then be retracted so that bridging contact 35 is moved to close the switch (Fig. 2, not shown). The resistor is varied by rotation of shaft 11. In normal operating conditions the switch is operable by shaft 11 without disturbing the circuit-breaker and may have operating means additional to but linked with the shaft. The series electrical connections between the resistor, switch and circuit-breaker may be external to the casing.
