Abstract

1,089,481. Bell electromagnets. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 6, 1966 [Jan. 6, 1965], No. 660/65. Heading H1P. [Also in Division G5] An electromagnet assembly, e.g. for use with a telephone bell, comprises a core 7 of ferromagnetic material embraced by one or more energizing windings 3, and an armature 2, the windings, core and armature being carried by a bobbin 15 of electrical insulating material, e.g. polymerized formaldehyde acetal resin having two intersecting apertures 18, 19 therethrough, the core comprising two parts of which two limb portions 21 extend into aperture 18 from opposite ends and have projections 22, 23 to retain the core parts in the bobbin with adjacent ends in abutting engagement. A permanent magnet 10 is held in the aperture 19 by frictional engagement with ribs 20. The armature comprises a rectangular plate of mild steel riveted to a frame 25 moulded from the same material as the bobbin and pivoted at 9. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates the device together with gongs and a volume control device (33) mounted on the base of a telephone. The control device (33) comprises a lever (34) which alters the position of a spring (36) in relation to a pin (37) carried by hammer head (38).
