Abstract
1,089,267. Grinding. H. A. WALDRICH G.m.b.H. Feb. 11, 1965 [Feb. 15, 1964], No. 6060/65. Heading B3D. A machine for grinding tapers or the like on workpieces comprises a carriage 2 movable parallel to a workpiece, a cross-slide 5 movable transversely with respect to the workpiece, a grinding wheel carrier 6 rockable upon an axis 7 parallel to the axis of the workpiece, a roller 10 on the underside of an end of the carrier and having its axis parallel to the axis 7 and adjustable with respect to that axis, and a shaft 18 which co-operates with the roller and is adjustable heightwise in the cross-slide by adjusting means 21. The distance b between the roller 10 and the rocking axis 7 can be adjusted by movement of the roller effected by a screw 12, and a further screw 14 is provided for adjusting the roller in the direction of the arrow 15. The adjusting means 21 consists of a pinion which may be rotated by gearing driven from the movement of the carriage 2 as the grinding wheel 8 traverses the workpiece and engages a rack 20 formed on the shaft 17 which is thereby moved vertically in a housing 16 to effect rocking of the grinding-wheel carrier 6 about the axis 7. In other embodiments, the gearing may be replaced by a mechanical or electrical coupling, the shaft 18 may be vertical, and the upper surface 22 of the shaft may be formed with a plate or rail on which the roller runs.
