Abstract
A method of forming an adherent nickel plate on a titanium article comprises surface cleaning the article; electrolytically deoxidizing the surface using an electrolyte comprising an aqueous solution of nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid, sulphamic acid and a sulphate salt of a metal from group II of the periodic table e.g. cadmium sulphate, rapidly transferring the article through a water rinse to a nickel sulphamate plating bath; e.g. comprising nickel sulphamate, boric acid and a wetting agent; where in the article is plated with a layer of nickel, rinsing and drying the article and heating the article to 218-538 DEG C. for a period of time sufficient to form a diffusional bond between the nickel and the titanium.
