Abstract

1,088,211. Jet propelled aircraft and land vehicles. M. TRUPP. March 2, 1966, No. 9129/66. Headings B7G, B7H and B7W. A jet-propelled aircraft, automobile or locomotive has a plurality of jet propulsion engines 46 arranged in a rotatable cylindrical mounting 45 with their axes parallel to, and spaced around, the axis of the mounting and the engines are arranged to cause the mounting to rotate. The mounting is rotatably mounted in a housing 43 pivotably mounted in a yoke 42 which is also pivotable relative to the aircraft and the yoke and the mounting are pivoted hydraulically. The propulsion unit may be mounted at the tail of the aircraft on the longitudinal axis, either in a pivotable yoke (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), or non-pivotably (Figs. 6- 8, not shown). In this latter embodiment the mounting containing the engines is rotatably mounted on a central axle (79) through which fuel passes, and in a peripheral bearing (89). In another embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the unit is mounted about a substantially vertical axis, in a pivotable yoke (65) in a " flying saucer " type of aircraft. The aircraft has a bi-concave form (50, 51) and annular fuel and passenger or cargo spaces (54, 55).
