Abstract
1,087,871. Space heating radiators; tubular heat-exchange elements. C. NYEGAARD. March 24, 1965 [Jan. 15, 1964 (2); Feb. 20, 1964], Nos. 1816/64, 1817/64 and 7060/64. Heading FS4. A heat-exchanger comprises one or more steel fluid-conducting tubes 30 and a plurality of U, L or Z-sectioned aluminium surface elements 42 threaded thereon whereby the web portions 44 of the elements are generally normal to and in heat conducting relation with the tube or tubes and the limbs 45 are in contact with the web 44 of an adjacent element to form one or two generally flat radiating surfaces. The limbs are provided with short inwardly extending flanges 46 to abut the web of the adjacent element. A hub 47 is formed around each of the tube apertures 35 in the web and a steel collar 48 of U or L section or of two-part construction is used to clamp the hub 47 to the tube 30. A space-heating radiator (Fig. 4) comprises a vertical row of the finned tubes extending between headers 31, 32 each comprising a rectangular open-topped box 34 the base 36 of which is connected to the tubes 30 whilst the lid 37 contains fluid inlet and/or outlet connections 39, 40 and partitions 38 to ensure that the fluid flows in a zig-zag path from the top to the bottom of the radiator. For maximum efficiency the distance d between the webs 44 of adjacent elements is approximately 1/25 of the height l of the radiator. The radiator is supported by three U-shaped brackets 55 mounted on a wall in a triangular formation with the base of the triangle uppermost. The limbs 58 of the bracket pass through slots 59 provided in the limbs of selected surface elements so that their extremities 60, 61 engage in a vertical direction with one or more of the tubes. The lower bracket is provided with an adjustable setscrew to prevent the radiator from swinging against the wall.
