Abstract

1,087,553. Wrap-round cartons. MEAD CORPORATION. Oct. 22, 1964, No. 43177/64. Heading B8C. [Also in Division E2] A pair of yieldable panels 14, 16 have an arrangement for securing their edges together with the panels substantially coplanar, the arrangement including a pair of locking tabs formed on the edge of one panel disposed in spaced relation to one another, each locking tab having an abutment shoulder extending towards the other tab a complementary locking tab formed on the edge of the other panel opposite the space between said pair of tabs and having abutment shoulders at opposite sides for engaging the abutment shoulders of said pair of tabs thereby to secure the panels against substantial relative movement, each of said tabs being formed with at least one closed longitudinal slit. In the construction shown in Fig.2 the two panels 14, 16 are part of a onepiece wrap-around bottle carrier, the panels being at opposite ends of the carrier and each having a plurality of tabs 40 to 44; 50 to 53 on its free edge. Each has a central medial slit 45 to 49; 54 to 57 which extends from the tab into the remainder of the panel and gives the tab flexibility. In a modification. Fig. 5, the tabs are formed with corner portions such as 101 which are engageable with slits such as 83 extending from the medial slit. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the free end portion of each tab is engageable with medial slits such as 110, 111 in the other panel. The wrapper is formed with apertures 34 to 37 which are-engageable with machine elements which draw the panels 14 and 16 towards each other to enable the tabs to be interlocked. The bottles are positioned by apertures 28 to 33 and scalloped openings 22 to 27. Finger gripping tabs 18 and 19 are struck out of the top panel 1.
