Abstract

108,716. Fibre Corporation, and Michot, G. Aug. 16, 1916. Breaking and scutching apparatus.-The flax &c. is inserted between two bands a, a' which are operated, preferably intermittently, to feed the material through the machine. The band a<1> passes round the pulleys b, b<1> and the band a round these pulleys and also round guide-pulleys e, e<1> and a tensioning driving pulley. The material is spread out evenly and also gripped whilst being acted upon by the scutching-blades c<2> by teeth b<2> projecting outwardly from the pulleys b, b<1> and preferably formed upon disks attached to the sides of these pulleys. Plates g, g<1> partially surround the peripheries of the pulleys b, b<1> and separate the ends of the material as they are simultaneously acted upon by the scutching-devices, two of which are provided at each end of the machine. A pull through device, which preferably is automatic and comprises a toothed wheel and a pair of belts, exposes the unscutched portion of the flax to the second pair of scutching-devices c<2>. The belt a is operated by an adjustable pawl h' and a ratchet wheel h caused by levers f<1>, which are weighted to tension the belt. Reference is made to Specification 15555/12.
