Abstract

1,087,115. Spray-producers. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. April 2, 1965[April 3, 1964], No. 14023/65. Heading B2F. [Also in Division F1] An oil atomising apparatus for blowing intermittently and alternately onto the place where a cutting tool of a metal working machine attacks the metal, first a mixture of air and oil and then air alone comprises a compressed air supply conduit 3 adapted to be connected to an intermittent compressed air source 27 and communicating with a conduit 5, for discharging atomised oil and air, through a passageway 4 of reduced section. A pneumatically-controlled valve 6 has a control chamber 14 which communicates with the conduit 3 and is closed by part of a rubber diaphragm 26. The latter cooperates with a seat 17 formed within an oil-passing chamber 15 the diaphragm being biased into a position such that a passageway 9 through the seat 17 and communicating with a working chamber 19 of a pneumatically-controlled reciprocating pump 8 is normally open. The oil-passing chamber 15 is adapted to be connected to an oil supply source through a conduit 7 whilst a control chamber 18 of the valve 8 is connected to the air supply conduit 3 through a conduit 20. The chambers 19 and 18 are separated by part of the rubber diaphragm 26 and a spring 21 continuously urges such diaphragm part towards the chamber 18. Through the medium of a conduit 11, a delivery valve 10, and a conduit 13 the chamber 19 communicates with an oil spray nozzle 12 disposed in the conduit 5. In operation, the intermittent compressed air supply to the conduit 3 causes the pump 8 to reciprocate thereby sucking oil into the working chamber 19 during one cycle and ejecting it into the air stream in the conduit 5 during the next cycle. When all the oil in the chamber 19 has been atomised compressed air continues to be ejected for a time dependent upon the actuation of the mechanism causing cut-off of the compressed air supply. By this means swarf produced by the cutting is cleared away. The apparatus is constructed of two moulded and machined plastic or metal units 1, 2 clamped together by blots with the diaphragm 26 therebetween.
