Abstract

1,086,556. Equalizing loads on wheels. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NœRNBERG A.G. Dec. 22, 1964 [Dec. 23, 1963; June 18, 1964]. No. 51986/64. Heading B7D. In a load equalizing system of a vehicle comprising four cylinders 2 each containing a piston connected to a wheel or wheel group, the space on one side of each piston is connected to the corresponding space of the adjacent wheel longitudinally of the vehicle and the space on the other side of each piston is connected to the corresponding space of the transversely opposite wheel of the vehicle, the arrangement being such that one diagonally opposite pair of plungers and wheels moves an equal distance but in the opposite sense to the other diagonally opposite pair. The cylinders are pivoted to the vehicle frame and the pistons connected to the wheels through helical, rubber, torsion bar or pneumatic springs and the vehicle height is preferably adjustable by withdrawing hydraulic fluid from the cylinder on one side of each piston and injecting fluid into the cylinder on the other side from reservoirs 7 through valves 8. In developments, at each end of a vehicle a single transverse cylinder is provided containing two pistons. (Fig. 3, not shown) or a single cylinder 2a containing one piston 1a connected to both wheels, Fig. 4 For use with a two-axle bogie pistons are provided for each bogie wheel and to permit pivoting of the bogie about a transverse axis A the ducts interconnecting the cylinders of the transversely opposite pairs of wheels, or the centre chambers 10, 13, Fig. 7, when combined cylinders, are used, are interconnected by a duct 15b, while the other chambers of the longitudinally adjacent cylinders are interconnected by ducts 5a and connected by ducts 16, 17 with the corresponding chambers of the other vehicle wheel cylinders.
