Abstract

1,086,161. Controlling Jet-propelled aircraft- HAWKER SIDDELEY AVIATION Ltd. June 24, 1964 [June 24, 1963], No. 25075/63. Heading B7G. An aircraft has two jet-propulsion engines spaced in the beam direction so that if one engine fails an asymmetric thrust is created, and gas pressure connections are taken from the two engines to opposite sides of a jack, so that the jack will be displaced in the event of one engine failure, the jack actuating means for correcting for the asymmetric thrust. As shown, air is bled from the compressors 11 of two turbo-jet engines and supplied by lines 13 to a jack 14 connected to a wheel 17 fixed to the rudder shaft 23. A by-pass line containing a pilot-operable solenoid valve 18 connects the line so that if one of the lines fails the jack may be rendered inoperative. The jack may alternatively or additionally operate angularly adjustable jet nozzles or deflector plates located inboard of the nozzles.
