Abstract

1,086,129. Facsimile recording apparatus. MOTOROLA Inc. Oct. 5, 1965 [July 30, 1965], No. 43315/65. Headings H4F. A current-sensitive recording sheet 48 is pulled from a roll 14 by a driven roller 15, which coacts with a pressure roller 40, and is scanned in the transverse direction by electrode structures 45 carried by a belt 34, which loops around the sheet, the electrode structures comprising V-shape resilient bodies printed with five (or more) electrodes and being supported in holes formed in the belt. During the traverse of the recording zone the electrode structures pass between the sheet and a flexible channel member 42 printed with parallel conductors whereby they are pressed into contact with the sheet at one end and connected to receive signals to be recorded at the other. One end portion of an electrode structure has the same width as channel member 42, whilst the other end corresponds to the height of the recording to be produced. The central portion has a notch in each side for engaging the belt. In one arrangement, Fig. 4A (not shown), the holes in the belt are of rhombic shape with two different diameters. An electrode structure is passed through a hole with its smaller end parallel to the longer diameter and is then twisted through 90 degrees so that it is held along the shorter diameter. In another arrangement, Fig. 4B (not shown), the holes are semicircular with the straight side of the same length as the smaller end of an electrode. The belt is inclined to the horizontal and twisted (see Fig. 1, not shown), so as to allow for the sheet movement and cause marking in parallel lines. The recording sheet comprises a first layer of current-sensitive material (which is contacted by the electrodes), a second conducting layer and a third insulating layer. The marking current circuit is completed via pressure roller 40, which is conductive, and a conductive guide plate 50. Head shields 65 at each side of the sheet prevent the electrode structure engaging sheet 48 except in the recording zone. Drive to roller 15 and a sprocket for the belt extends through a one-revolution clutch (see Fig. 1, not shown).A high-speed drive is. also made to the roller for rapid paper advance.
