[Also in Division D1] In a sizing machine hygrometers 16 sense the amount of liquid on the yams leaving the squeeze rollers 12, 13 associated with the sizing bath 10. The signals from hygrometers 16 are fed to a comparator 19 to be compared with a set value and if the speed of the yam through the squeeze rollers varies then the resulting variation in the quantity of size on the yam leaving the squeeze rollers alters the hygrometer signal and a signal is emitted from comparator 19 to vary through an electric motor 21 and hydraulic rams 36, 37, the squeeze roller pressure and regulate the quantity of size in the yam. Further hygrometers 16a sense the yam after it has passed over drying drums 22 and the speed of the machine is varied in accordance with the variations in signals from hygrometers 16a to change the drying time on the drums and thus regulate the final moisture content of the yam.
