Abstract

The burner nozzle 14 of a gas fueled lighter may be covered by a member 1,8 which is slidable along a surface 20 of the lighter casing, said cover 18 being formed with a hollowed-out .portion 42 which deflects the gas stream emerging from the burner through 90 degrees, Fig. d (not shown). The cover 18 ,may be moved by a finger piece 34 which extends through a slot 36 in the lighter housing or by means of a pushing bolt 38, Fig. 8;(not shown). In other forms .of the invention the gas may escape through a bore in the burner nozzle and be deflected by the underside of the cover or pass into.the cover and escape-through a-longitudinal bore therein. In Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown) the cover is moved into position over the burner nozzle by pivoting about a horizontal or vertical axis.
