Abstract
1,083,856. Spectacle frames. EVER READY PLASTICS CO, Ltd. Jan. 27, 1966 [April 2, 1965], No. 14033/65. Heading B5A. The front portions of spectacle frames are moulded from a first synthetic plastics material, e.g. cellulose propionate or butyrate, by providing a pair of blanks of a second synthetic plastics material, e.g. nylon or polytetrafluoroethylene, which will not melt or weld to the first material under the operating conditions, the blanks being flat and of the same peripheral shape as the window openings in the frame, but slightly larger, locating the blanks in a heated mould containing a matrix of the frame, and having a pair of corresponding surfaces for each window having substantially the curvature of the lenses, closing the mould so as to deform the blanks to the shape of the surfaces, forcing heated first material into the mould, and removing the blanks after moulding so as to leave grooves e.g. of U-form around the window openings into which the lenses may subsequently be fitted. The mould may also contain matrices for the two side pieces of the frame, which may be moulded simultaneously. Charnieres, i.e. half-hinges, may be placed in the mould before moulding so that they are moulded into the front and/or the side pieces.
