Abstract

1,083,589. Cooling engine cylinders; engine turning gear BRIGGS & STRATTON CORPORATION. Feb. 4, 1966, No.4996/88. Headings FIB and F1K. A cooling air fan 27 is carried by a member 15 fired to the crank-shaft, and a screen 28, carried by the blades, extends over the entrance 12 to the casing 11 guiding the cooling air to the cylinders. The member 15 form the driven member of a ball type unidirectional coupling of a starter mechanism 7, e. g. a manual starting mechanism. The fan 27 supplies cooling air through the opening 12 and supplements the effect of fan blades 9 on the flywheel 8. Air escaping between the bottom of the screen 26 and the opposing part of the casing 11 prevents entry of dirt, gran clippings &c. through the gap into the cooling air stream.
