Abstract

1,083,382. Telescopic dampers. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO. Ltd. Feb. 22, 1966 [Feb. 23, 1965], No. 7688/65. Heading F2S. A dust cover for a telescopic shock absorber comprises a semi - rigid cover 10 made of resilient synthetic resin or plastics material, e.g. polypropylene, and which has a thickened end portion 12 which terminates in a radially inwardly-directed flange 14, has an internal annular groove 16, and an inclined shoulder 18 which merges smoothly with the normal thickness of the cover wall, and a rigid end closure member for the cover in the shape of an annular washer 20 having a raised crown portion 22 with an aperture 24 for fitting to a piston-rod, not shown. In assembly, the member 20 is passed axially along the length of the cover 10 to ride over the inclined shoulder 18 and snap into the groove 16 with an interference fit. The inclined shoulder may be rounded or flared, and may not be circumferentially continuous.
