Abstract

1,083,345. Pipe couplings. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. June 20, 1966 [March 19, 1965], No. 11891/65. Heading F2G. In a boiler plant, a safety valve is connected by a conduit 4 to a discharge conduit the lower end of which is formed as a housing 3, the sealing means between the conduit and housing comprising an annular member 11 having a circular opening which allows the conduit to move through the permitted range of lateral movement thereof, an annular member 12 sealed to the conduit 4 and also allowing the conduit to move through the permitted range of lateral movement thereof, and a plurality of plates 15-18 with openings 15a-18a which increase by regular increments equal to the difference between the diameter of the conduit and the opening 15a. Each plate and the member 11 is formed with a flange, e.g. 18c, which is in sliding contact with the next adjacent plate, and axial movement of the members 11, 12 relative to each other is prevented by a ring 20 secured to the housing and a plate 21 having an elliptical opening 22.
