Abstract

A standard lamp comprises a base a, a standard b, a lamp support d pivoted to the standard and a tensile element h attached to part of the lamp support not on its pivotal axis and connecting it to a counterweight k slidable along a guide j in response to pivotal movement of the lamp support so arranged that the counterweight slides on the guide to positions further from one side of a vertical line through the base as the lamp support is swung to positions further from the vertical line on the opposite side. The guide is mounted on bearings f, l on the standard b and terminates at the top end in a downwardly forked portion m which embraces the tensile element so that the guide remains opposite to the lamp support. The top horizontal portion of the guide may be extended towards the lamp support by telescopic tubes through which the element h passes. The lamp support may carry a set of lamps, enclosed in individual shades e 1 or in a common shade e 2 .
