Abstract
1,082,457. Feeding webs. MASCHINENFABRIK VITS G.m.b.H. Aug. 18, 1965 [Sept. 3, 1964 (2)], No. 35352/65. Heading B6B. A web W is advanced by an airstream issuing from a plurality of nozzles 1 (Fig. 7) disposed opposite one or both faces of the web, and which airstream is inclined in relation to the plane of the web. Each nozzle 1 is defined by an upstream wall 4 and a downstream wall 5, and is characterized in that the downstream wall 5 extends a distance d of at least twice the width of the free nozzle aperture as measured in the longitudinal plane perpendicular to the plane of the web W, i.e. a + b + c, the wall 5 terminating in an edge 5a. Internal flow smoothing separating walls 3 may be provided within the nozzle. A perforated aerofoil surface (6, Fig. 7) is provided between each nozzle, and air issuing from an upstream nozzle escapes to the rear of the surface (6) before reaching the next nozzle, aided by baffles (7, 8 and 9). Figs. (8 to 10) illustrate various ways of positioning the nozzles relative to the path of the web.
