Abstract
1,082,234. Electrostatic precipitators. HITACHI Ltd. Oct. 12, 1964 [Oct. 11, 1963 (2); Oct. 15, 1963 (2)], No. 41624/64. Heading B2J. In order to reduce the electrification demand for dust particles in an electrostatic precipitator used for the purification of dust-laden air and comprising grounded electrodes 1, high voltage electrodes 2 and ionizing wires 3, a perforated member, such as a screen 4, Fig. 1, or a perforated plate 7, Fig. 3, is provided in front of (as seen in the direction of air flow) the wires 3 in order to remove part of the dust particles from the dust-laden air prior to its passage through the precipitator proper, the perforated member being insulated relative to the ground and having a very low draught resistance and a very small electrostatic capacity. The perforated member may be made of metal or of insulating material. In Fig. 2, two perforated plates 5 are used separated by a layer of fibrin or porous mechanical filter element such as glass wool or polyurethane. In another embodiment, the high voltage electrodes are Y-shaped in cross-section when viewed in a direction at right angles to the direction of air flow.
