Abstract

1,081,907. Overload devices for cranes. STOTHERT & PITT Ltd. May 5, 1966 [Feb. 5, 1965],No. 5170/65. Heading B8B. [Also in Division G1] An overload warning device for a jib-crane includes a pulley 10 incorporating straingauges 15, 16 which measure the resultant force produced by a luffing rope W. An inner hub 12 is mounted on an eccentric spindle P so that it only turns when the direction of the resultant force changes. Movements of the rope W round the pulley cause an outer rim R to rotate on a ball-race B. The hub is cut away to form an arch support 12 with ends of reduced cross-section to which the strain gauges are attached. Other transducers may replace the strain gauges.
