An austenitic heat resisting steel comprises .C.0.07-0.2% .Si.0.2-1.5% .Mn.0.5-3.0% .Cr.14-20% .Ni.8.5-13% .Mo.0.7-2.0% .Nb.0.08-0.5% .V.0.1-0.5% the balance, apart from impurities and incidental elements, being iron. Optional alloying and impurity elements include: .Cu.1-4% or up to 0.2% as a residual, .B.0.002-0.2% .W.0.2-1.0% .Ca.0.002-0.2% .Mg.0.002-0.2% .N.up to 0.02% .S.up to 0.03% .P.up to 0.03%
