Abstract

Omega-lactams are prepared by reacting cycloalkanemonocarboxylic acids with nitrosyl chlorosulphonate at a temperature of between 30 DEG and 150 DEG C. Examples describe the production of capro-, capryl-, valero- and lauryl-lactams from hexahydrobenzoic acid and cyclooctane-, cyclopentane- and cyclododecane-carboxylic acids respectively.
