Abstract
1,080,164. Reaping machines. BAMFORDS Ltd. Feb. 28, 1964 [Feb. 28, 1963], No. 7993/63. Heading A1F. Relates to an agricultural mower of the kind wherein the mower frame is mountable on tractor hitch-links and the reciprocating knife-bar is driven from the tractor rear power-take-off, the driving means comprising a main driving shaft coupled through a universal joint to the take-off and carrying a driving wheel connected (e.g. by a belt) to a knife-bar-driving shaft. According to the invention, the mower frame comprises two parts, one part 9 being a main frame mounted on the hitch-linkage and the other part a subframe carrying the cutter bar and the main driving shaft 19, the sub-frame being transversely adjustable on the main frame so that the position of the inner mowershoe relatively to the tractor may be altered without affecting the relative spacing between the two driving shafts. The main frame 9 is rectangular, with an upper beam 10 carrying a hitch-point 12, sidepieces 6, 7 carrying hitch-points 4, 5 and a lower beam 11 along which the subframe is adjustable. The sub-frame comprises the drag-bar 16 terminating at one end in a hinge-bracket 17 which receives the inner shoe of the cutter-bar (Fig. 1, not shown) and at the other end in a bearing 15 which carries the knife-bar-driving shaft 23 and is bolted to a bracket 14 forming part of the beam 11. A further bracket 18 secured to the bar 16 adjustably supports a bearing carrying the main driving shaft 19, the shafts 19, 23 having pulleys entrained by a belt (not shown). In Fig. 5, the bearing 15 is laterally adjustable by passing its securing-bolt 28 through either pair of two pairs of alternative holes 26, 27 in the bracket 14, but in a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) only one pair of aligned holes is provided, the bearing being turned over, to adjust it, so that the bearing sleeve 29 is on the opposite lateral side of the securing bolt 28.
