Abstract
Bright chromium plate is electrodeposited on a cathode, e.g nickel-plated brass panels, at a rate of at least 1.25 microns per minute from a plating bath containing chromic acid and sulphate with optional complex fluorides such as silicofluorides, fluo-aluminates, -zirconates and -titanates, wherein the CrO3 concentration is 100-400 g/1, the ratio CrO3 to (SO4-+SiF6-) is 25-100, the proportion SiF6-: SO4- is 0-4, and the temperature is 27-94 DEG C., at least two of these four variables being within the more specific limits CrO3 150-250 g/1, ratio 25-70, proportion 0-2 and temperature 60-82 DEG C., and the cathode current density being at least 150 amps/sq. dm. The anode may be of lead and the sulphate may be added as sulphuric acid.
