Abstract

1,079,254. Generators operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Sept. 24, 1964 [Sept. 26, 1963], No. 39037/64. Heading H2A. The duct of a magnetohydrodynamic generator is bounded on two sides by electrodes 5 and on the other two sides by walls 1 which are made of good heat conducting material which has the coefficient where # is the thermal conductivity, E is the modulus of elasticity and a is the coefficient of expansion, all measured at room temperature. The walls, whose temperature is not substantially less than 1000‹ C., may be formed from sintered metals or electrically conductive silicon carbide or molybdenum disilicide and can form the pole shoes of the generator magnet. Both the walls and the electrodes have cooling ducts 3, 6 for the flow of distilled water or silicone vapour coolant. The walls and electrodes are cemented together using refractory cement 7.
