Abstract

1,079,160. Adjustable steering shafts. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. June 7, 1966, No. 25310/66. Heading B7H. A vehicle steering column assembly comprises two shafts 3, 5 of non-circular crosssection at least where they telescopically interengage, a steering wheel 1 fixed to shaft 3 and a steering gear 7 connected to shaft 5, and a removable pin 13, which is shearable by the impact of a driver on the steering wheel, extending through aligned holes 9, 11 in the two shafts, shaft 3 having a plurality of alternative holes for adjustment of the steering column length. As shown, the shafts are of square cross-section and the pin 13 extends through aligned pairs of holes in the two shafts.
