A low-alloy steel has the following percentage composition:- .C.0.35 to 0.5 .Si.0.5 to 3 .Mn.0.3 to 2 .Ni.0.3 to 1.5 .Cr.more than 1.5 to 3 .Mo.0.2 to 2 .V.more than 0.1 to 0.5 .Co.0.5 to 2 .Fe.the balance V may be replaced by any carbide former which is stronger than Cr or Mo.
