Abstract
1,076,866. Bituminous compositions. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Aug. 16, 1965, No. 34981/65. Heading C3N. A butuminous composition comprises an inorganic aggregate, e.g. crushed stone, sand, gravel, or slag, all of which is retained on a No. 200 U.S.A. Standard screen, and in which at least 60% of the voids are filled with a bitumen having elemental sulphur dispersed therein in the ratio of 1-4: 1. Pyrogenous bitumen derived from petroleum residues is preferably used and the addition of the sulphur is carried out between 112À8‹ C., the melting point of sulphur, and 177‹ C., the reaction temperature of sulphur and bitumen.
