Abstract
1,076,477. Automatic voltage control. K K CHIYODA. Oct. 19, 1964, No.42493/64. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H2] The D. C. voltage E o supplying a load is obtained by rectifying an A. C. mains supply through Rec 1 --- Rec 6, inverting the resultant D. C. to square waveform A. C. of different voltage from and substantially higher frequency than the A. C. mains supply by using semi-conductor controlled rectifiers SCR A , SCR B and a transformer MT, and finally rectifying this high frequency A. C. through Rec 7, Rec 8. The D. C, voltage is maintained constant at a predetermined value by varying the firing instant of rectifiers SCR A , SCR B , using a detector bridge circuit D whose error signal is combined with the output of a saw-tooth waveform oscillator SO and applied to a Schmitt trigger circuit ST feeding the rectifier control electrodes through a binary flip-flop circuit FF. Circuit ST also feeds a blocking oscillator BO which supplies pulses to a transformer T to switch off the rectifiers SCR A , SCR B , the frequency of these pulses and hence the frequency of the inversion stage being determined by the frequency of the oscillator SO. . This latter frequency also determines the value of the D.C. voltage. Diodes DÝ, D 2 ' prevent mal-operation of the oscillator BO by pulses produced when the rectifiers SCR A , SCR B become conductive.
