Abstract
Polymers of the formula <FORM:1076378/C3/1> and copolymers represented by the general formula <FORM:1076378/C3/2> wherein R1 and R2 are each hydrogen or methyl; x and y are integers; n is 1-3; and Z is .CONH2, O.CO.CH3, COOCH3, or a 2-pyrrolidone-ly or morpholino-carbonyl group, are used in photographic applications. The polymers and copolymers are prepared by polymerizing the appropriate monomers and comonomers in the presence of catalysts such as ascorbic acid/hydrogen peroxide, azobisisobutyronitrile and potassium peroxide. Specified comonomers are vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate, acrylamide, vinyl pyrrolidone and acryloyl morpholine. Polymerization may be effected in water, aqueous isopropanol or dimethylformamide. The polymeric product can be isolated by dialysis and subsequent freezing.ALSO:N-morpholino methylacrylamide is prepared by reacting acrylamide with formalin, hydroquinone, and morpholine; N-morpholinoethyl acrylamide by reacting ethyleneimine with morpholine and reaction of the morpholino ethylamine so prepared with acryloylchloride; and N-morpholino propyl acrylamide by reacting acryloylchloride with N-aminopropyl morpholine. Corresponding derivatives of methacrylamide may be prepared in a similar manner.
